Nazareth House, Middlesbrough

Brief

The Order required a major extension to the existing Grade II listed building to increase both the number of bedrooms in their residential care home for the elderly and create additional convent space for the Sisters based in the premises.

Solution

Working closely with the local planning authority, a sensitive two-storey extension was carefully designed onto one end of the building to achieve a fully integrated scheme, with scale, materials and detailing appropriately chosen to respect the listed building. Following the sale of the site, we have also subsequently designed a new build three storey development constructed within the grounds providing accommodation for 40 no assisted living apartments for over -55’s and have recently obtained planning approval for a further 24no.bed two storey extension to the original care home
