Brief

To provide new build accommodation for Stratford Primary Care Trust on a confined brownfield site in the centre of Stratford adjacent to the existing hospital. The PCT required administration offices, private practice areas for Doctor’s Surgery, Dental and Chiropody services together with residential accommodation for 38no. EMI beds for elderly people.  

  

Solution

The accommodation is arranged into two blocks of three and four storey’s for both clinical and residential uses respectively. The clinical block is carefully arranged to differentiate between public and private access. Each block encloses an inner landscaped courtyard which provides social and amenity space for it’s users. Construction  is of concrete frame with Metsec steel sections with a “butterfly” dual-pitch roof over. Externally, materials have been chosen to suit the contemporary appearance which is designed to contrast with the surrounding buildings using terracotta tiled rainscreen and coloured rendered panels.
