Brief 

A competition to design a new Sure Start building planned within the grounds of the existing Redcar Youth Club. The building provides facilities and support for early years children (0 - 4yrs) and their parents

Solution

DKS’s won the competition for it’s committed approach in working with the client and by demonstrating the desire to create a building which would be attractive to both children and parents. An “L” shaped building was located onto a fairly tight site which created both a bright welcoming entrance at the junction of the two wings and formed a safe landscaped court enclosure capturing the grassed area and existing mature tree. Bright colours, natural light and variations in ceiling heights and form help create a fun learning environment for both child and adult.
